First time here and we loved it. Great (and vast) alcohol selection with drinks you might not have had before. They also have lunch specials. I got the bangers and mash, and my husband got a full English, which they call a Full Monty. We finished that off with the brownie bites. The waitress told us there was a dessert of the day, which wasn't featured on the menu. We left very full and satisfied and will definitely be back again.

Great pub! Secret entrance; if you can find it you may enter. I highly recommend the Shepherd's pie. Parking was tough; we parked on Washington.

The experience: five stars. The food: three. But maybe that's unfair, because British cuisine isn't known for excellence. In any event, the service was good, and we appreciated the old phone booth outside our window. The very placement of the pub on the side of a hill is reminiscent of Britain. My drink was a tasty flavor combo of hard cider and porter. We started with a Scotch egg, a hard-boiled egg wrapped in sausage, rolled in bread crumbs, and baked to crisp deliciousness. The main course was fish and chips. The fish was moist but pretty much like all the other fish and chips available, and the chips were bland, soggy, and absolutely uninspired. Is that how they're supposed to be in Britain?

Just like walking into a pub in London. Great atmosphere, great food, great service. The shop next door is also a great source of English fare.

This place was only okay. It wasn't terrible. It wasn't great. Nothing to write home about.I had the full English breakfast. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't mind blowing or notably delicious in any way. My boyfriend had the eggs benedict, which he thought was just okay. The best thing was probably the service and the tea. The waitress was super sweet and was helpful when I asked questions about the menu. She didn't hassle us, so we were able to drink our tea and just enjoy our breakfast out.The phone booth was cool for a quick photo op.

Seriously best Sheppards Pie hands down. I have never been to a place so busy and still get served quality food in such a fast pace. I have been eating here for since I was 12 and plan to be eating here until I'm 50

The pub is super big. There is plenty of space table and chair.Great place to come in a group as there can easily separate the bills for each person. The selection of wine is small. And to be honest they need to improve in the range of beer and include cherry and fruity Belgium beers. The tomato soup was not blended neither strained which Gordon Ramsey will completely disapprove.

Friendly staff and good “English” staple meals. The staff here were super friendly. We enjoyed some simple fish and chips after being in California for 2 weeks. It’s possible to find parking outside but the place gets busy so be prepared to wait around for a table. Definitely recommend this place. Enjoy.

I dig the place. Its dark and the place fits the part of an English tavern. The staff really make the place. Food was good.....not great but serviceable but that menu isn't designed to wow you. It's comfort food and it does that well. Great beer selection. Definitely no place like it in San Diego.

Everything about this place was perfect English pub. No strip mall atmosphere. Our fish was huge, bigger than my hand, light and fluffy batter, inside juicy, tender and flaked apart. They do have a thing about peas though, they're cooked to perfection, no mushy here. One of the nights favorites were the lettuce roll ups. YUM, they were so good.

The best Fish and chips!! Great service and atmosphere We sat outside with our pup Zarbie. Watched the padres and had a chill day. Good specials on beer too. The patio is big and overlooks a bit of downtown and has forever views.

Great place for British Pub food and beer in Downtown San Diego. Particularly good Fish & Chips and Meat Pies, and they have a good selection of English and Irish beers. They have indoor and outdoor seating, or sit at the authentic British bar. On the other side of the patio from the restaurant is the Tea Room where you will find authentic food and tea from Great Britain. There is a comedy club adjacent to the Tea Room, so you can find parking, grab beers at the Pub bar, and then go to the show.Location is convenient and close to the airport. Parking is free but limited.

Tried the Monday burger. It was alright. My friend tried the fish and chips. Greasy and juicy. I suppose that's what this pub is famous for. Table service was great, very well cared for and with a dash of comedy. Cheerio.

Proper British pub with a view of the Pacific Ocean - what’s not to like? Food is good and filling, with (of course) a UK theme. Regular American fare is on offer, as are vegetarian options. Patio is pet friendly, and the wait staff will bring doggie water. There is a little corner shop on premises that sells British knick-knacks and food. Parking is tight, and some spaces are steep. So consider taking ride share. And that will let you enjoy the great beer selection, too! 😁

I went to Shakespeare's quite a bit in my college days (2004-2006), and I am delighted to say it is still authentic and great. There is not a better British pub in San Diego. All the standard British fare is done very well and the tap list is legit. Still very popular for soccer enthusiasts if that is your game. Shakespeare's is always a delight.

The food there tastes just like it does in England. I would know, I've been there. The staff are great and the price is fair.

Went to the Bitter End when we found ourselves in the Inner Richmond with empty tummies. The fried mushrooms are delectable, I would go again just for them. Great selection of various ciders as well. Yum!

This is home. No other way to put it. It's home and the happiest place on earth for me. Been coming here for 2 decades and cannot think of a better place to be with great people. I can rave about the food and drinks, the ambiance; but ultimately, it's about the people, and the people here make you feel like family. Love you guys!!!

They made room for our large group on a very busy day and we had great service and excellent food which was new to many of us. It's a raucous place but fun and there is a beautiful view of the Bay. Don't forget to try the tea shop after you eat.

This is probably the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. I can see why they won so many awards. I was here to try the challenge. You have to eat 2lbs of fish, 2lbs of fries, and 1lb. of peas. All must be done in 45 minutes. The peas were the hardest to eat fast without loosing them off your spoon. The fish and chips were easy. This fish is so good. It's perfectly cooked. Most places serve greasy fish but not here. It's excellent. Well I finished in 35 minutes, got my meal free and am rockin a cool t shirt. Service is very good here. Everyone was so nice. If you are a soccer fan, this is the place to come.

Was searching in San Diego for pubs that screen European football games and English premiere league. And being a chelsea fan.. This was a bonus! It's a proper English themed pub.The staff are great and attentive. The seating, music and location is great. It tends to get crowded during big games.. So be aware. The food could have been better. When I ordered it.. Most of it was cold and a little bland.

Liked it, good ambiance, design of the place is also great. The food though, it wasn't bad. Plain and close to flavorless is what it was.

Want a little bit if Jolly Old England? Even the wait staff have accents! Good pub food and generous portions. Consider sharing plates and leaving room for sticky toffee pudding! The enclosed patio makes for more comfortable seating when the rains come. Wheelchair friendly with an accessible restroom.

Old Speckled Hen beer and good British pub food. The cottage pie is huge. Fish and chips are good. The store that sells British swag is cool, but kind of expensive.

Great service and appetizers! The beer battered pickles were so cheap for a huge basket of them and were so delicious! I am a lover of fish and chips and always trying to find the perfect recipe. So the only reason I give this four stars is that I found their fish and chips very bland and the batter on the fish had a huge part to play in this.Still enjoyed my evening however and I really loved the cozy feel of the atmosphere.

I have never had a bad experience here. My husband wanted to try it out and it is the best English style pub we have visited yet. Always nice service and we have met some really great people there. I recommend the chicken pot pie with a black velvet. My husband recommends their half and halfs.

Good location for a nice beer and delicious food... We had a great time here. Just found the place a bit untidy and old. However, the comic and picturesque washroom walls are interesting 🤪

Best pub in San Diego, hands down! Authentic British fare and drinks. A lot of the staff are form the isles, and the atmosphere and decor are on point. Also, LOVE the shop across the courtyard. Next best thing to being across the Atlantic.

At the foot of the palisade leading to Hillcrest is the best English pub in San Diego. What better place to celebrate your departure from the Empire. Shakespeare’s has a good view of the bay. One can see three of the barges pretty well and the one in Coronado in the distance. That being said, one is inside a pub! English style food (better than the real thing) and a bar. Jackie is from Manchester. How perfect is that and she is very sweet. The manager, Tabitha, was very concerned about the service.
